The Daughter of the Sea

Merchant Zayed’s Harem Adventures 8

Merchant Zayed's new palace should be filled with laughter, love, and beautiful wives. Instead, his family is heartbroken—and his mermaid daughter has arrived with a deadly secret. Her enchanting eyes reveal terrifying futures, while a mysterious illness consumes her. To save her, Zayed must seek answers beneath the sea, even as a suspicious prince threatens everything he owns.

Excerpt:

Caliph Harun al-Rashid’s uncle throws him a dismissive glance. “And what’s this about Javad the Wise? Did Zayed keep some of the treasure from you?”

“I’m sure he took his fair share, Prince Malik. The task was a formidable one, after all.”

“A giant bird, a flying carpet, and two magical felines? Do they belong to us or are they still in his possession? Never mind, I can tell the answer by your face.” Malik straightens his collar in the reflection of the fountain. “He’s after your position, Emir Khalaf... Possibly after my nephew’s as well.”

“I... I can’t imagine... Arash Zayed has been nothing but loyal to us.”

“Then why does he have his own trade routes, an intimate relation with a foreign power, and recourse to magical beings?”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ When one of Zayed’s daughters turns up on his doorstep the whole family is delighted. Until they find out the wrong way that looking into her eyes conjures disturbing visions about each person’s future. J. Tiffany Noore continues to delight with Merchant Zayed’s Harem Adventures. In her inimitable way, she adds three more threads: about treason, about children, and about illness. This episode leaves us wanting for the next… and the next.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Another J. Tiffany Noore ensemble twister: Rozhin and Naaira’s desperation for children, Ruksana’s devastating card reading, Noor’s refusal to “fix it with magic.” Then Sirona arrives as Zayed’s daughter and the way she unsettles everyone. I also liked seeing Rozhin take charge when they need a ship and crew; she’s got the merchant’s brain after all. Myth, magic, family, and a new sea mystery: there’s plenty here to keep me curious.
